Everything started from an imagination when I first imagined having a platform to provide technical or financial support for newborn businesses. The imagined vision was shaped after a three-day program in Germany, Berlin, 2017. The program was designed for entrepreneurs where female and male participants from Europe and Afghanistan had to develop business ideas. The ideas with more votes were chosen as the best ones, and others were supposed to join the group with the most votes. The motivational ideas were about agriculture, software, application programs, and online platforms. One of the ideas that could earn most of the votes was mine. Seeing our Afghan entrepreneurs with impactful business ideas, I was disappointed when they told me that starting their business is impossible for them as they did not have access to finance. It was the moment when I visioned a platform where I can help these entrepreneurs with financial support.
Passion, emotions, and your home are the only reasons which can make an impossible possible. That is what these three phenomena did to me. I had nothing at the moment of dreaming about Tamveel, but with the strength of the three reasons behind my dream, I could make it happen. My full passion for establishing an impact investing platform was the result of me being an entrepreneur. The emotions were made from my personal feelings, which I earned during the time when I had the financial responsibility of my family. I was a passionate young entrepreneur striving to start my own company while it seemed impossible because I did not have access to finance or any technical support. For someone who has the financial responsibility of his/her family and wants to start a new business that may not earn profit in the first year, it is extremely challenging. My home, Afghanistan, was the other reason for me to have such a dream. The state of my country was telling me that it needed impactful activities to be changed.
At the end of 2018 and starting of 2019, I started establishing the Tamveel impact investing platform. The concept of Impact Investment was new in almost all the countries around the world. Therefore, introducing people to such a concept in Afghanistan was challenging while other countries knew a little about it. When I was explaining the concept of Impact Investing to people, it took me so much time to thoroughly make them understand the concept. I took the first step toward my passionate dream: delivering campaigns and market awareness training about Impact Investment. Founding Tamveel, the moment of witnessing an imagination becoming a reality happened through my second step. As a venture of my company, Brightpoint, I established the Tamveel Impact Investing platform.
The network comes first whenever I think about my luck in life. And one more time, while founding Tamveel, my network made it easy for me to get access to startups and entrepreneurs. Of course, the challenges were of high consideration too. There was a foreign company that came here for Impact Investing with millions of dollars. After one or two years, they left knowing that the market for their work, Impact Investing, was not working in Afghanistan. A high level of stress came to me when I found out about them, knowing that they had a huge amount of funds while mine was nothing compared to them. The other risk was the possibility of not having profit in the first or second year, which happened when Tamveel did not have any profit in its first year of establishment. It was a sensitive time as no one believed me when I told them about Impact Investing, and they told me not to start such a business. Consequently, the risks involved in Tamveel had the strength to stop me from this path, but the power of a passion is much more compared to that. With the strength of my will and dream, I could successfully establish an Impact Investing platform in Afghanistan.
Tamveel has always been a working-progress and learning process for me because the impact industry is an industry with new concepts, seminars, and topics. It is an exceptionally suited market for the current situation of Afghanistan. The critical part of Impact Investment, Impact Measurement, is being debated continually by professionals and experts which means it is an evolving concept. Parallel with the concept being evolved, our knowledge and company is evolving and improving too. It made me believe that more when successful and experienced companies started reaching Tamveel for technical support.
Our team at Tamveel is passionate, hardworking, and talented which did not give up on Tamveel even when it could not earn any profit. Brightpoint is a company standing on its own feet; however, the almost two-year-old Tamveel is still like a baby business to me, so it is close to my heart. We are missioned to make our packages and due diligence as better as possible and get access to the global Impact market fund to channel it into Afghanistan for the upcoming future. We have a strong mission and a beautiful vision for Tamveel, and we will achieve it!
